This is a two-part question, how extensive was your involvement in building the car? And what future modifications would you like to do once the budget for the turn3 race program gets bigger?
Hope: I was in charge of building the car, but I'm not much of a wrench so I had a lot of help from friends. My crew chief Andrew Horn did most of the work. Danny Sanchez at Pro Mod fabricated the roll cage. He used 2.5" DOM steel and it really is one of the cleanest, strongest cages you'll find in a production based racecar. My friend Marc Maksimow had his students at Rio Honda College fill the roof and paint the interior and roof. Then there were about another half dozen racers that donated time to get the car ready. Everyone really wants to see this car race. There really isn't much more to do to the car. We are waiting for Hondata to crack the code on the ECU and it could use a couple more shakedown days at the track, but the car is pretty much ready to throw down. As the budget grows it will let us go to more events so more people can see what the car can do.
I hear you have a pretty pimped-out tow vehicle to go with this car?
Hope: Yeah (laughs), while I was working on the Civic with Andrew the other guys had their hands full making my dream tow vehicle. Honda gave us a new Honda Ridgeline and we sat down and said, let's build a fun truck to chill out with between sessions at the track. So the guys worked with Denny at Crossfire and Steve at Dynamic Customs to install a DVD player and XBOX in the trunk to play Forzawith and "practice." They also installed head-rest monitors and a killer Crossfire subwoofer and amp in the cabin of the truck. John at HFP gave us every accessory Honda makes for the Ridgeline - front bumper trim, roof rack, motorcycle rack, rear-view camera - it's totally loaded.
And our friends at American Racing also contributed a set of TIS 06's to
make the Hope-Mobile blingtastic. The Ridgeline totally kicks-ass! It tows
great; we towed the Civic to SEMA this year and had no problems. It also
makes quite an impression… I drove it all the way to Firebird Raceway in
Phoenix and I showed up bass bumping, chrome blinging and all my racer friends
were like, "WOAH!" What can I say, that's how we roll! ![]()
