It didn’t take long for Scion’s uniquely shaped xB to gain a cult following. Even in its stock form you can't help but notice the extremely eye-catching design of the xB; pretty soon tuners, artists, and enthusiasts all over the country took Scion’s invitation to transform their xB’s into a representation of their individual personality and their particular culture.

To say that Troy Sumitomo is just one such artist is doing a disservice to the man himself along with his impressive team at 5 Axis Models, the world famous design firm that does everything from creating their own projects to producing the impressive design drawings that turn everyday OEM’s into the kind of concept cars you see at auto shows all over the world (So watch your mouth). When Scion presented 5 Axis with the xB, Troy and his elite team at 5 Axis immediately set out to turn the car into the most unique Scion in existence. The concept Troy's team came up with for the xB was to create a fully functional mobile party machine. After teaming up with Pioneer electronics, the gang over at 5 Axis began creating a self-enclosed DJ station using the xB as its platform.

Starting on the outside and working in, the first stage of the project was to create a complete one-off body treatment. The bumpers, side skirts, and fenders are 100% original pieces designed by Troy and his crew and formed by using molds carved by his one of a kind “5 axis” milling machine. With all the body kit pieces fitted, the car’s width increased by approximately eight inches. That in itself is an amazing accomplishment but the body work didn’t stop there. To further set this xB apart from the rest of the pack 5 Axis cut the height of the roof by four inches and manufactured their own all new custom-crafted windows and windshields to fit into this new, aggressive xB.

Once that was accomplished they went to work putting the beat into the box. The rear of the car was completely gutted and a platform was custom cut to fit inside and placed on top a track driven by an actuator motor. When the rear platform is extended a two-tier shelf flips up into place with the top tier supporting two Pioneer record turntables and the bottom tier supporting two Pioneer digital CD turntables and mixer.

In conjunction with the rear platform’s sliding out action, both rear doors simultaneously pivot open to reveal 3 pairs of speakers and tweeters as well as four 12” subwoofers powered by four mono-amplifiers, all housed behind the rear platform.

The 5 Axis xB is a marvel to see and hear. I think its pretty safe to say that Troy and his team accomplished their mission of creating something unique and then some. Troy is currently setting his sights on the clothing world with new designs for turn3. Now I wonder how much it costs to get this thing to come out and DJ my upcoming Quinceanera?
